Soma Faith Kaleidoscope

A fabulous class where we explore the relationship between the many parts of us (Body, Mind, Emotion, Spirit), with the many parts of our body (Bones, Muscles, Tendons, Ligaments, Skin) to express movement from the inside out, heart to hands, earth to heaven, with the intent to feel relaxed, expressive and fulfilled.

This class is HYBRID, where you can choose:

  1. LIVE Online via Zoom and/or

  2. Enjoy a 24 hour replay

This movement experience is suitable for beginners and people of all different fitness backgrounds.

Each time you look at a kaleidoscope, new beautiful arrangements appear magically. This figuratively suggests that one should approach the most difficult situations in life by changing one’s attitude to the circumstances because life is truly amazing. It also means there is so much to look forward to, regardless of the worst lows you might encounter. Things fall apart sometimes, but they can always be put back together even if in a different pattern, much like the stunning art in a kaleidoscope.

Sir David Brewster, the Scottish scientist, invented this wonderful instrument in 1816 when he experimented with light polarization. He mixed up a few Greek words that meant “observer of beautiful shapes” and succinctly came up with the word “kaleidoscope”.

Guided Inspiration for 2026

What if today is not a day for doing.

What if today is a day for remembering what you are at the deepest level.

Below is an expanded, line by line, contemplation for a New Beginning.

Find a pen and piece of paper. Or start a journal for the year.

Expand your experience: dance and/or meditate with music provided between each prompt.

enJOY the process

To be guided, step by step, through this contemplative experience, with Helen Terry, join the 365 day Hero Journey or sign up for the January “The Innocent” Hero’s Journey.

  1. A day to NURTURE

Today you unify all aspects of yourself: your past cycles, your lessons, your desires, your inner child, your adult self, your future self.
Nurturing begins with re-collecting your scattered pieces and drawing them close without judgment.

Reflect on:

  • What parts of me have I abandoned or neglected?

  • How can I gather myself into wholeness again?

  • What needs softness, patience, or gentleness today?

This is an invitation to mother yourself.

play song

2. simply be

What if today is about pure attraction, no effort, no striving.
What if you don’t need to fix anything or make anything happen.
What if being itself draws the next cycle’s (days, weeks, months, year) experiences toward you.

Reflect on:

  • What if simply being is my most powerful act today?

  • What qualities do I wish to attract for the next 365 days?

  • How can I sit in the fullness of who I already am?

Allow yourself to gravitate toward what feels nourishing, real, and alive.

Play song

3. Choose to Plant

Birth is messy, sacred, unknown—and full of potential.

Today marks the conception point of your next cycle, this new year. What if whatever you choose to plant now (an intention, an attitude, a prayer, a promise) will unfold over the next 365 days.

Reflect on:

  • What wants to be born through me in this cycle?

  • What vision, habit, or dream feels ready to emerge?

  • What must I let go of to create space for new life?

You’re not required to know the entire journey.
Only the beginning impulse.

https://music.apple.com/us/album/here-comes-the-sun/1441164426?i=1441164589

Play song

4. Align with your true center

What if today’s purpose isn’t accomplishment, instead orientation.

Reflect on:

  • What is my inner north star right now?

  • How do I return to my core purpose whenever I drift?

  • If I did nothing else today, what would keep me aligned?

Purpose today is felt, not forced.

https://music.apple.com/us/album/now-and-forever/1715730424?i=1715730429

play song

5. be guided by inner wisdom

This is an invitation to trust your first impulses, your instinctual yes/no, and the wisdom that arises from stillness.

Reflect on:

  • Where do I feel my deepest, unshakeable knowing?

  • What would my life look like if I trusted myself twice as much?

  • In what ways am I ready to stand in my inherent power?

The cycle begins not by seeking outer guidance, but by listening inward.

https://music.apple.com/us/album/by-faith/1082253187?i=1082253188

play song

6. CLOSING “ONE” Practice for Day 1 2026

  1. Sit quietly and place a hand on your belly or heart.

  2. Ask: “What wants to be born in me?”

  3. Allow one word, image, or feeling to arise.

  4. Let this be your seed intention for these upcoming 365 days.

https://music.apple.com/us/album/lifes-about-to-get-good/1440890530?i=1440890860

play song

You don’t have to understand this process. You don’t need to understand the word, image or feeling that comes to you. You are simply invited to trust the process and honor what comes to you with curiosity and an open heart.

2026 Hero's Journey

Sale Price: $730.00 Original Price: $899.00

We’re embarking on a heroic journey for 2026.

Would you like to join us?

Each month we will spotlight a different hero archetype through dance, movement, exploration, discussion, and education.

All experiences will be online via Zoom with 1-7 day replays.

There will be live classes 10am Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday via zoom with replays. Plus Saturday 8:45 5 Stages Developmental Experiences.

Helen will teach 80% of these classes, Irene will continue to provide Feldenkrais experiences and Natasha, Gigi and Michele will teach Nia.

You can also enjoy pop-up experiences including dance breaks, EFT tapping, Evolutionary Mystic Meditations and more at various times of the day, varying from 10 - 45 minutes with 3 day replays.

Beyond continuing to provide our regular somatic (Body Centered) movement experiences that support your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing, this new 12‑month, 365‑day, project aims to

  • deepen our understanding of the personalities within us by exploring them through movement, exploration and education.

  • develop additional resources for self‑awareness and fascination

  • move toward being the best humans we can be (yes! let’s dream and aim big LOL)

The 12 hero archetypes, popularized from Carl Jung's work, are universal character patterns used in storytelling, branding, and psychology, representing core human motivations and experiences, and include the Innocent, Everyman, Hero, Caregiver, Explorer, Rebel, Creator, Lover, Jester, Sage, Magician, and Ruler, each seeking different things like freedom, connection, or mastery.

The 12 Archetypes:

  • The Innocent: Seeks happiness and safety; optimistic, simple.

  • The Everyman (Regular Person): Wants to belong and connect; relatable, down-to-earth.

  • The Hero: Aims to prove worth through courageous action; competent, disciplined.

  • The Caregiver: Desires to help and protect others; nurturing, generous.

  • The Explorer: Seeks freedom and new experiences; adventurous, independent.

  • The Rebel (Outlaw): Wants revolution and to break rules; disruptive, transformative.

  • The Creator: Aims to build something of enduring value; innovative, artistic.

  • The Lover: Seeks intimacy, connection, and passion; sensual, loyal.

  • The Jester: Wants to live in the moment and bring joy; fun, playful.

  • The Sage: Seeks truth and understanding; wise, knowledgeable.

  • The Magician: Wants to make dreams come true; visionary, powerful.

  • The Ruler: Seeks control and order; authoritative, leader.

How They're Used:

These archetypes help authors create relatable characters, build strong brands by aligning with consumer desires, and offer frameworks for personal growth by identifying one's dominant patterns.

In 1996, as a Nia Technique trainer, realizing I needed to do more of my own inner work and be better able to hold space for leading people through embodied movement experiences, I began a master’s in Alternative Dance Therapy at the Jung Center in Houston. That started a 30-year journey of fascinated interest in authentic movement, archetypes, and somatic (body centered) healing.

I’m excited to bring these passions to our 365 and 30 day movement journeys in 2026.
— Helen Terry

Each month you will receive

  • information, prompting questions and a group discussion session around the archetype

  • movement classes with foci that support the “archetype of the month”

  • pop up experiences that enhance our exploration of the “archetype of the month”

  • group discussions and community connection through our private facebook group

As a community we’ll co‑create playlists and immersive experiences such as “Blue Monkey” improv’ classes and FreeDance explorations.

5S Nerves: sensitive communicators, every part of you speaks

Bloom: Listen, Receive, Relax, Dance.

Intent YES! Thank you nerves!

In this class we are getting on our nerves in the best sense ;) diving into the inner world of fiber optic communication systems who are at work day and night, 24/7, within our bodies.

Your sensory nerves give you a language of sight,
hearing, taste, smell and touch.
The sensory nerves
influence the beat of your heart and your lungs
functioning, awake or asleep.

In the Nia 5 Stages, you are invited to a place of sensitivity that enables you to observe and release the sensation of stress and embrace the sensations of Dynamic Ease, Pleasure, and comfort.

Key concepts

Anatomy: Nerves, Electricity, Brain, Neuron, Dendrite, Autonomic, Central Nervous System (CNS), Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)

YBW: Your Body’s Way “the current design and function of your body” (always changing/new)

Beginning with the Nia 5 Stages class, which most often is described as a luxurious healing hour of setting the focus for the 10am movement experience that follows.

To educate the body somatically,
we first become curious,
not through the mind
but by exploring sensation
for the sheer stimulation of it.
We notice and learn through the senses.

Mr Men and Little Miss

As part of our 2026 “Hero’s Journey” program, we will spotlight the Mr Men and Little Miss books. Each book feature will have three parts:

  • a story reading

  • a short look at the character’s traits and lessons

  • a discussion at our monthly community meet-up online.

Growing up with the Mr Men and Little Miss books, I loved how they celebrated difference and affirmed that everyone mattered. Returning to them as an adult, while reading with our daughter, I was struck by how wise and quite genius these stories truly are.

I’m excited to share these gems with y’all as part of our Hero Journey in 2026, inviting curiosity, compassion, and a little joy along the way.

A playful and meaningful way to explore the many ways we each show up in the world.
— Helen Terry

Mr. Men and Little Miss is a beloved children’s book series known for its simple storytelling, bold colors, and instantly recognizable characters—each one built around a single personality trait.

Origins & Creator

  • Created by Roger Hargreaves in the UK.

  • The first book, Mr. Tickle, was published in 1971.

  • The Little Miss series followed in 1981.

  • The idea reportedly came from Hargreaves’ son asking, “What does a tickle look like?”

Concept & Structure

  • Each book centers on one character = one trait
    Examples:

    • Mr. Happy

    • Mr. Grumpy

    • Little Miss Sunshine

    • Little Miss Bossy

  • Stories are short, rhythmic, and moral-light—they gently explore behavior rather than preach.

  • Conflicts are usually small and social, resolved through insight, consequence, or humor.

Visual Style

  • Simple line drawings

  • Flat, bright colors

  • Minimal backgrounds

  • Characters are often geometric (circles, rectangles, blobs), making them:

    • Easy for children to recognize

    • Emotionally legible

    • Timeless and adaptable

Themes & Why They Endure

  • Emotional literacy: Kids learn to name feelings and traits.

  • Acceptance: Every personality has value—even the tricky ones.

  • Humor over judgment: Flaws are treated playfully, not harshly.

  • Universality: Adults often recognize themselves in the characters.

Cultural Impact

  • Over 250 million copies sold worldwide

  • Translated into dozens of languages

  • Adapted into:

    • TV series

    • Merchandise

    • Collaborations with brands (fashion, home goods, stationery)

  • Continued today by Adam Hargreaves, Roger’s son.

Why Adults Still Love Them

Many adults appreciate the series for the same reason children do:

  • Archetypal clarity (they’re almost personality “icons”)

  • Emotional simplicity in a complex world

  • Nostalgia paired with genuine wisdom

Look at how adorable these books are. Fun fact; when you have all the books in the correct order the library, the spines read out “My Mr Men Library” and “My Little Miss Library”. What a fabulous way to encourage children (and adults) to put things back, orderly and tidy, where they belong,

We'd be thrilled if you'd like to join us ONLINE or via our 24HR recording this Saturday with Natasha who is teaching 2 classes back to back. Here’s what she has to share about these fabulous opportunities;

I'm so looking forward to sharing a delicious double scoop of movement magic with you this Saturday!

“Creating Self” This feels like a perfect "wrap up" of my 2025 Soma teachings, as well as a beautiful gesture of stepping into 2026... with an energy of "Yes We Can"!

Here is a tiny snippet from our 8:45am 5 stages lesson tomorrow:

Creating Self is the idea that we are always in the process of becoming... not just physically, but mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Just like we once grew from an embryo into a walking human, we continue to evolve and reorganize ourselves throughout our whole lives.

Every choice we make, every thought, action, interaction, every breath & movement shapes who we are becoming next. The practice of Nia 5 Stages gives us a way to remember this natural intelligence... the body’s instinct to reorganize, to seek comfort, to heal, to transform. Every time we move from one stage to the next, we are literally creating change

As for the 10am Nia class, come groove and move with me to a fabulous playlist (subject to changes up until 1 minute before class, lol)

What's next? work in progress...

For 5 years, we have been on a glorious journey with our “30 classes, 30 days” monthly program. I (Helen) began solo, leading all the classes. Then a wonderful team evolved, with each individual teacher bringing, and cultivating, their own brand within our collective community focused brand.

I love this team and community so much and have a challenge letting go, however the pull to make a change is strong:

  1. Personally: Joe (my husband) and I have a lot of major transitions, including being in the process of selling Soma Ranch and becoming Grandparents.

  2. Professionally: I feel the calling to bring my fitness career and faith center together, to create a movement form called Soma Faith.

Part of me wants to say STOP, enough! I am done! Another part (and the winning partner) says what if you could do what you really want to do, with ease and be super helpful, vibrant and happy about what you are bringing to the world? What if you follow the mandate of your spirit?

Here’s the plan so far:

Continue to provide:

  • 10am on Mondays, Thursdays (at Soma Ranch AND online via zoom),

  • 10am Saturdays via zoom and add a

  • 10am Fun Friday Class (30 or 60 mins) via zoom.

  • 8:45am Saturday 5 Stages: Either

    • Classic Nia 5 Stages lead by Natasha or

    • Mystic Meditation Hero’s journey with 5 Stages lead by Helen

In addition Helen looks forward to providing “Pop up” opportunities including;

  • daily “dance breaks” (5-15 minute mini experiences with 3 day replays)

  • additional education invitations (for example introductions to “hero journey”, “archetypes” “EFT tapping” “evolutionary mystic meditation”)

  • additional optional Pop Up Christian Soma Faith opportunities

  • monthly meet up community chat

Helen likely will teach 80% of the classes. Natasha, Gigi, Irene, Michele will continue to teach, and Paul is considering joining us.

Here’s my current vision of what we can co-create:

A space where the body is honored.
A space where movement becomes meaning.
A space where spirituality is experienced, not imposed.
A space where people of all belief systems feel safe, welcome, and free to go as deep as they choose.

Soma Faith is born out of my own relationship with Christ and the way that faith grounds my life and practice. And this work/program is not about pushing a belief system onto others. It is about creating a container where everyone (Christian, other religion, spiritual-but-not-religious, curious, uncertain, or simply human) can experience connection, reflection, depth, and healing.

Your beliefs will never be tested here.
Your boundaries will be honored.
Your presence is enough.

My commitment is simple:

to offer embodied spiritual experiences that are open, inclusive, and rooted in compassion, without diminishing the truth of my own faith, and without creating barriers for anyone else’s.
— Helen Terry (my commitment)

These are the steps I’m taking.

  1. A step out of fear.

  2. A step into integrity.

  3. A step toward the work I am being called to do.

If your heart longs for a place to connect, move, breathe, question, soften, strengthen, and show up fully…. you’re invited.

I’m grateful you’re here.

And I can’t wait to keep growing this space with you.

There will be 3 options to be part of this journey:

  1. a 365 day “I am all in”

  2. a 30 days “I will enjoy one block at a time”

  3. a drop in “I want to dip my toes into the journey”

Tomorrow (Saturday) at 10am there will be an opportunity to connect and chat about these possibilities, we will use the usual 10am time and zoom link slot. Email helen@somaranch.com if you need the link.

Everyone on the 365 day and 30 day journey will automatically receive the following replays on this special day:

  1. Simple Kata “a new day, a new beginning” 60 minute experience with Helen

  2. Simple Kata “let your light shine” 30 minute experience with Helen

  3. Blue Monkey “under the magic of the full moon!” 30 minute experience with Natasha

  4. Thanksgiving Jam

Email Helen@somaranch.com if you’d like to receive any of the above replays.

I love Hybrid

234500208_10159057082966077_7861808423537428201_n.jpg

Hi! here I am having fun getting ready for class. We’re loving how the projector, in the studio at Soma Ranch, has worked out beyond expectations for creating Hybrid Nia classes.

Integrating the projector into the Hybrid experience, wasn’t even an imagined choice when we were problem solving how we could bring ONLINE participants, via zoom, to join our local community who come to the studio in Montgomery, Texas, to dance IN PERSON.

Our plan was to invest in a big screen TV to be able to see and interact with participants ONLINE via Zoom, while somehow sustaining connection with the folks in the room IN PERSON.

The challenges of the Big screen included:

  1. where to install the big screen TV to avoid being intrusive for the participants in the room

  2. how to teach facing the ONLINE participants, with IN PERSON participants behind

  3. how to teach 2 different groups of students without feeling split (not to mention confused and conflicted!)

  4. oh yes! and the cost LOL

During a recent Nia Training, I had finished up a session using our power-point and was preparing for the public Nia class.

These days we, Nia/movement teachers, have much to juggle in preparation of staring class! within a 15 minute window I’m greeting students walking in the door, having new visitors complete a waiver, getting my computer on to Zoom to bring the ONLINE students into the experience, checking sound levels, often helping someone ONLINE who has their speaker off or volume down who doesn’t understand why they can’t hear me and yes, as studio owner, there’s often a call to restock a bathroom with toilet paper… I could go on…

During this “many things in a short window of time” practice, I had forgotten to turn off the projector. Oh my surprise when, as the zoom video comes up, I glance over my shoulder and see all the beautiful ONLINE peeps right there on the wall! An extra bonus is, as the computer is on the facing wall, the zoom participants can see both themselves on the wall and all the arriving participants in the room.

Community connection is something I witness to be a very important component of the class experience, even more these days than ever before. This opening “Stepping in” to the studio, before class begins, both for in person and ONLINE participants, feels like a warm wonderful weave that brings the 2 groups (ONLINE + In PERSON) together.

Benefits the projector brings include:

  1. ONLINE zoom participants are BIG enough to be seen

  2. ONLINE zoom participants are going WITH the teacher (through camera installed from ceiling)

  3. In PERSON participants enjoy feeling like they are moving with ONLINE students (rather than against)

  4. In PERSON participants have the choice (focus facing teacher, glance to the side to enjoy ZOOMies)

As the TEACHER

  1. I can focus on the participants in the room and glance at camera to connect with Zoomies

  2. I can relax my over thinking brain - phew! Left means left and right means right for all!

  3. I can connect and not feel split between ONLINE and IN PERSON participants (avoiding the conflicted and confused feeling I was having with Simultaneous Screen and Studio participants.

  4. I can see ONLINE participants from the center of the room (No need to walk to the computer in the corner to see what’s happening in Zoom Land!
